Weekend Links: July 15/2011

This week has been extremely busy. Between work, soccer and Finance Fox, I am definitely glad the weekend is here. That being said, it wont slow down anytime soon, but should be a fun weekend never the less. I decided to take my cousins to the beach for the day and will be going to the zoo on Sunday. I’m excited about the zoo. It’s been more than 15 years since I last been at the zoo. Keep you posted on my zoo adventure. In other news, I’m also proud, yet excited to say that one of my articles was featured in Globe & Mail (Rob Carrick’s Reader); It’s OK if you don’t invite me to your wedding.

Robb Engen shares his view on retirement and why Freedom 55 Is Just A Dream. This dream can turn into a reality with careful planning and hard working. Far too many younger people and including the ones just starting out in their careers confuse retirement with financial freedom.

Krtysal at GMBMFB poses an interesting question; Can tattoos and piercings hurt your career? Depending on which sector you work in and how far you want to go up the ladder, I think it can hurt your career. That’s just my opinion, her readers share their views. Great post!

I often wonder why athletes in major sports (NFL,NBA,NHL & MLB) get paid ridiculous amounts of money. 5 year contract worth $25 million? Insane! I don’t doubt for a second that they don’t train hard and work hard to win, but that’s absurd I thing. What happened to the days in the 50s or 60s when NHL players were getting team jackets for exemplary performances? Either way, enough me bitching, but Kevin from Thousandaire write a good post comparing Teacher Pay vs. Athlete Pay.

We plan a lot and sometimes over plan. We work hard towards personal & financial goals. We take the appropriate steps, so what is your next step? Krantcents share what his next steps are.

Barbara from Barbara Fiedberg Personal Finance share her opinion Is the Growth Over for USA? written in an interesting article she read. There are good arguments for both sides, depends which way one looks at it.

Young & Thrifty blogger muses us on Investing in a TFSA as a Student; Your Options. She is going back to school in Sept. and shares with us her view on TFSAs and which type of TFSA she has. Excellent intro to TFSA.

Sam from Financial Samurai gives us a mid-year review of his personal finance goals. Look’s like he is doing alright.

Hope ya’ll have a super weekend. It will be a hot, humid and gorgeous weekend. At least if you are in Toronto and surrounding area.
