Finance Fox Weekend Recap: 7 Awesome Reads You Missed This Week

Another week comes to an end. My week was busy just as any other week for the past 52 weeks, so rather than me talking about me, I wanted to do things a little differently, and share some interesting news and happenings around the world that caught my eye.

Katie Holmes Files For Divorce – Many media outlets indicated that fans were blindsided by this move. Seriously? Who thought for a second that this marriage would last? I surely didn’t, especially since Tom Cat is into the whole Scientology thing. I’m only surprised it  lasted this long.

Ohio Woman Dies After Meeting Obama – Josephine “Ann” Harris, 70, met U.S. President Barack Obama, gave him a hug and served him breakfast. A few hours later she complained of fatigue, and was taken to a hospital. She was pronounced dead a short while later. Sad story :(

Reading; The Inexpensive Hobby – Something that most of us forget is that reading is an incredibly inexpensive hobby that provides so many benefits. Check out this article.

Albert Roundtree Jr – Here’s the next 50 cent, and even at the tender age of six, he’s ripping it up on his new single ‘Booty Pop’, and even has tail shaking their feather. Check out the video:

Now let’s shift focus towards 7 awesome reads you might have missed this week from the world of personal finance:

Prairie EcoThrifter – Have you ever read the book “1984″? For those that never read it before, it would be a good idea to read the book -  a solid read I’d highly recommend. For those that have read it before, re-read it again. Big Brother is watching, especially if you enjoy making free phone calls. Its scary how much info Google has on the average internet user. The last thing anyone needs is their phone conversation to be transcribed.

The Web Ninja – For all you bloggers (specifically personal finance bloggers), you might have heard that Avrom launched a new blog to share his web expertise The first few post have been awesome, and I wouldn’t be surprised one day if he becomes the ‘Canadian Version of Pat Flynn’. If you’re a blogger or looking to start a blog, make sure you check out the top 10 wordpress plugins post.

Passive Cleaning Income – As a small business owner (online and offline), I know first hand how easy it is to lose focus. Sometimes great ideas come about, only to be forgotten down the road. So, here’s a post on how to keep focus, and a little trick on remembering all of your ideas and how you can use them in the future.

Give Me Back My Five Bucks – Have you ever thought about living without a car? Think you can do it? Personally I wouldn’t be able to live without a car. I play way too many sports, participate in a lot of activities, drive to work, and my business relies heavily on my car.

Krant Cents – Here’s someone who’s a total opposite of me when it comes to credit-cards. Larry loves credit cards, and seems like they have big love for him as well. Sounds like Larry has a fantastic credit score too. Personally speaking I don’t have anything against credit-cards, but since becoming debt-free, I’m happy with two credit-cards – A Visa for personal use, and a business Visa for my business. I’m not into points, options or anything else that credit-card providers offer these days. Both of my cards are free of any annual fees, and both have a year of extended warranty coverage on select purchases.

See Debt RunAttaching a goal to something you want to buy is an idea that’s not so new, yet very few of us fail to use it because our instant gratification gets the better of us. Jefferson has set a weight loss goal (Good Luck), and upon the completion of his goal, he plans to reward him self with a pretty awesome reward.

From Shopping To SavingBuying clothes you don’t need, and saving money is a new concept to me. Most of us have way too much clothes that we don’t need which we don’t wear often enough. Yet, we continue to buy new clothes while holding onto old inventory. I personally purge at least 3-4 times a year. Some stuff I throw out, and most of my unwanted, unused, and outdated clothes gets donated to the local goodwill store.

GIVEAWAY OF THE WEEK

  1. Thanks so much for the inclusion Eddie. It is really scary how much our information is accessible these days.

I am not a celeb follower of much but I am not surprised that Tom and Katie have not lasted. She should have married her original fiance. I always wonder what makes people think that a person will be different in a marriage second or third time around.

  3. Thanks for the inclusion, I really appreciate it.

  4. I find that video a little bit horrifying myself. Hopefully the video makes him enough money to pay for the umbilical hernia repair he obviously needs. Poor kid.

Thanks so much for the mention and for the luck–I’m going to need it!

  6. Eddie, thanx for the stellar mention, above and beyond!!

Pat Flynn is a huge inspiration for me, but I have a long long way to go – to even get a fraction close to his league. ;)

    Cheers
