Finance Fox Weekend Recap – Hurricane Sandy Rainy Weekend, Bingo & Money Reads!

It’s been anything but an exciting weekend here in Toronto as we’re getting belted with rain from what I believe is Hurricane Sandy that’s moving along the east cost of USA and heading towards Nova Scotia and New Newfoundland.  To be quite honest with you, I hate rainy weekends. I spend five days of the week in a 5×5 office, which is nice and cozy, so I don’t mind rain during the week, but for Pete’s sakes I hate seeing rain or snow storms on weekends. Not only does it make the weekend dull, but it certainly doesn’t motivate me to get out and do anything. However, I tried my best to stay in an upbeat mood to get out and enjoy some of the weekend.

Let’s face it: The weather’s the weather! There are those who forecast it, we complain about it, but at the end of the day there’s nothing that will change the weather. So come what may, we’ll do like we always do – put on our galoshes, pull out our umbrellas, and if need be, even drag out our winter coats. Some of you will make lemonade, but I forgo-ed lemonade for bingo, and actually had fun at the session.

Three hours flew by, I threw away $50 and woman sitting in front of me won $5,000, which happened to be the second biggest prize of the night. Even though I didn’t win anything, I enjoyed bingo and in the process drew a few conclusions from some close observation:

  • I think I was the youngest person in the bingo hall that night. Average age seemed to be around 45+.
  • People enjoy bingo a lot, and some of the regulars can play 4 or 5 cards at the same time per any given game.
  • Without trying to sound prejudice, majority of the players looked like they were on welfare, while oddly enough the parking lot was packed with BMWs, Benzo’s, Audi’s and other luxury vehicles.
  • I’m a total bingo rookie, who at times had trouble keeping up with even one card.
  • I will go back again…..to play bingo……maybe sooner than I had anticipated.
  • You can have fun even on rainy days.

Here are this week’s money related reads that I enjoyed reading and that deserve another call up into the spotlight.

Thirty Six Months – Do you have friends who make some really dumb money mistakes? I’m sure we’ve all got one or two of those in our lives that beg the question: Are you generous or just dumb?

Financial Samurai – Year end is fast approaching, and as much as we should be excited about some time off, Christmas and a fresh start in the new year. While we’re busy with Christmas shopping, and relaxing during the holidays, managers are busy figuring out who to hire, promote, and who to fire! Here’s how to save your job and not get fired.

Passive Cleaning Income – You can’t control the fact that your business cards might end up in the garbage, but if you want to make a lasting impression on a potential client you should definitely read 4 ways to use promotional products to market your cleaning business or any other business for that matter.

My Own Advisor – Mark (a seasoned investor) in my mind, give a solid explanation on what DRIPping is and what it means to reinvest your dividends so they automatically buy additional shares of a company.

The Web Ninja – Have you considered selling your blog? Would you? Why or why not? There are many reasons to sell or not to sell your blog, but it’s a question most bloggers are faced with at one time or another.

Canadian Budget Binder – One of the many reasons why we love getting free samples and freebies is that they can be very useful for testing new products, that’s why Canadians love free sample products. Myself included!! :)

Work Save Live – Manhood isn’t defined by pink vs. blue, being overtly sexual, how many chicks you get with, or being a total fool in public. Boys becoming men: It doesn’t happen on accident. Loved the read!!

How To Save Money- How much do you pay all together for my communications and entertainment services on a monthly basis? How does $108 sound for internet, cable TV, two cell phone, home phone, long distance and movies? Read this post and start paying less for all these services!!

Thanks for stopping by and being part of this weekend’s Finance Fox Weekend Recap. We hope you enjoyed this week’s awesome reads, and see us again right here next weekend where we’ll do it all over again.

Cheers!

Eddie

  1. You were likely the youngest in the hall by 40 years :)

The parking lot is a good sign these folks have some coin. They want more. Greedy seniors!

Thanks for the mention…be mindful of Sandy!

  2. Haha mate.. BINGO.. Mrs.CBB brought me once but I don’t think I’ll go back again. I was so slow and couldn’t keep up that I thought she was going to slap me upside the head from the stress I was causing her lol. She used to be a regular going once or twice a month when she was younger with her friends in her small home-town. She says it gets easier the more you go but I think I’ll stick to my Lotto Max. Cheers mate.. thank for the share. Mr.CBB

  3. Hey, thanks for the mention Eddie! It’s been a LONG time since I’ve played bingo. My aunt used to be pretty big into it and I went with her a time or two when I was a kid. I admit, it was fun. I should definitely give it a try again sometime.

  5. I haven’t played bingo in years. The last time I played was when I visited my grandma and she wanted to go with all of her friends. Everybody in the room was 70+ years old and was chain smoking. Other than that, it was a lot of fun.

    Thanks for the mention!
