Maintaining two or more jobs has become the norm for me. In fact I’ve maintained two to three jobs since about the age of 18. Looking back now, I felt like I did it all. I dabbled in the fast food industry, retail, worked as a server, tried the factory/line worker job, sales in IT and now presently in Marketing, which also happens to be my passion, alongside writing. And I can honestly say that I enjoyed working hard and carrying more than one job. If you’ve read my post on ; This Is How I Earn Money, I mention the mentality I was raised with, of working hard in your younger days in order to reap the rewards of hard work later in life.
This is my story of working two jobs and maintaining a passion too;
Motivate my self…
I like my money. Now, that we got that out of the way, I can’t lie, but money is a motivator. It feels good to earn cold hard cash weekly and get weekly paychecks from multiple sources, this including my full-time job in Marketing. That being said, there is more to it for me, than just money. I don’t think money alone would be able to motivate me, if I did not have anything to show for it.
I do have something to show for. I’ve cut my debt down nearly 53% in less than 8 months by having multiple streams of income. I am growing my savings nest with every dollar earned, by putting away at least 15% towards savings. On top of it all, I’ve been able to purchase new items for my condo and fully finish renovating it to my like and the best part of it all, I did not take out additional credit, but paid it all in cash.
I’m a Tech Nerd… (shh it’s a secret) :)
One of my jobs (part-time job) is fixing, selling & refurbishing computers. This is something I’ve never took any schooling for, but rather self thought, mostly trough trial & error, reading and of course YouTube. I enjoy it a lot. Started out small, by fixing computers for family and friends. Eventually the word got out and had friends of friends calling to have their computers repaired.
This IT side gig has given me the opportunity to earn extra cash. I set my own schedule and work it into my life. I’d much rather stay in on a Friday night, fixing a computer, earning $100+, than going out and spending money. We all make choices for what priorities are in our lives. Fortunately for me, I’ve made this a priority . I don’t follow any rigorous schedule, but to write it all down and try to keep my self organized and only take on as much I think that I can handle.
Getting Organized
I try and set my priorities accordingly. First priority being my full-time job in Marketing, followed by my part-time IT gig and thirdly my passion for writing about Personal Finance. I devote enough time to all three and still manage to squeeze in 4 days of soccer, social time with family/friends, watch my favorite TV shows and even some alone R&R time. How do I do it? Easy! I don’t waste time and fill in my days accordingly by being organized and on top of things. I make it a point of getting up early on Weekends by catching up on reading, writing new posts and not sleeping in till noon. Long gone are those days. It’s amazing how much one can get done, by starting their day bright and early.
Passion For Writing
I am enjoying writing more and more everyday. This journey of becoming a writer on Personal Finance has been nothing short of amazing. Not only have I met some amazing people, written some decent articles, been featured in the media a few times , but I’ve also learned a lot about writing and keep getting better at it, with every post.
Thus far I’ve virtually earned no income from my passion of writing on Personal Finance, but the opportunities exist. In the mean time, I am enjoying my journey with Finance Fox and everything that I’ve learned throughout this journey.
In Conclusion…
Maintaining multiple streams of income and a new passion is a lot of work and dedication, but I feel it’s worth it. I like to keep my self occupied and still find time to enjoy life. Some will argue the case, that they rather would enjoy life, than dedicate every minute to working, but we all got priorities and goals in life. I’m not better than anyone else by choosing to have multiple streams of income. It’s a choice. Remember, you always have a choice.
What’s your part-time job?

I currently work 3 jobs – my FT job in marketing, and my PT jobs writing/blogging, and being a freelance graphic designer. I’m hoping that, through hard work, the money I make through my two PT jobs will eventually surpass my FT job income. At least, that’s my goal in the next 2 years.
Krystal!
That’s a very good goal. I don’t doubt for a second that you won’t reach it.
Even though we’ve never met, you are on the most determined and hard working individuals I know.
Truthfully, your post that you wrote a few months ago on Moneyville “How I work 3 Jobs” inspired me to share my 2 jobs and 1 passion. Thanks for the inspiration!!
